Letter from Citizen
Thursday evening, February 26th(2004), I was sitting peacefully in my home on Tamarack Dr. in Darien, when the doorbell rang.  A Darien police officer informed me of a situation at the house directly in back of mine, (_ _ _Belair Dr.) and asked me to turn off all of the lights in my house.  A short time later, the bell again rang, and this time I was greeted by a gentleman in camouflage who introduced himself as Steve (I don't remember his last name), with the FIAT SWAT TEAM.  He asked if he could come in, and I said yes.  Seeing the long bag he was carrying, I immediately knew what was going on.  He asked if I had an upper level to my house and when I said yes, he asked if he could take a look.  I escorted him upstairs through a completely dark house to the back bedrooms.  He first looked in one and then the other and asked if he could "set-up" in the one on the east side of the house.  I gave my consent. He moved furniture around and "set-up".  Later he asked if some men could come in to warm up since it was so cold outside.  Again, I agreed.  Throughout the length of the "situation" at _ _ _ Belair Drive, I served a hot beverage to at least a dozen of the FIAT SWAT TEAM.  Each and every one, including Sniper Steve as one of the men called him, was extremely polite, carried on a very nice conversation with me, and profusely thanked me for letting them come in and warm up.  Not fully knowing what was going on at 8_ _ Belair, it made me feel very safe knowing these men were there to perform their duty and protect us on this cold and damp night.

When the "situation" safely ended at approximately 11:30 pm, Steve packed up his rifle, put my bedroom back together, and again thanked me for the use of my house. He also told me to let you know if anything was damaged or carpeting dirtied and you would take care of fixing, repairing, cleaning, or replacing.  A little mud on the kitchen floor was the only thing needing cleaning and that took about 10 minutes of my time.

Again, I want to thank the entire team working last Thursday, February 26th (2004) at _ _ _ Belair Dr.  You guys are all wonderful and brave facing unknown situations such as this one.
You will all be remembered in my prayers in the future.
