presence of a highly trained, highly skilled police service dog has
been show to substantially reduce the risk of injury or loss of life
to citizens, police officers, and suspects. A well managed, coordinated

| The
FIAT SWAT Team incorporated the use of its first SWAT K-9 team in 2001.
FIAT SWAT is currently one of only a very few SWAT teams in the Chicago
Metro area to deploy with canine during its operations. In 2005, FIAT
added a second K-9 team to its ranks. |
| The
primary roll of a SWAT canine is to locate a hidden or barricaded offender.
This is accomplished by the canine using its heightened senses of smell
and hearing. Our canines also play an important roll in assisting on
arrest teams and searching and tracking in open fields, wooded areas,
and residential areas. |
